As I read more and more of the chapters, I've come to realize that the book is really just based on sex and how people connected to it. This chapter seems like a continuation from the previous chapters and I am hoping that it'll be chapter IV-You, he, and me. Because the story ended at a Gay and Lesbian Bar and never mentioned what happened to the two girls. Once I began to read the chapter, the name Derek was the very first word of the book and I don't recall any name that existed in the previous chapters. In other words, I believe it has to do with an exciting story that never ended and was about to continue after all these years.
The scene began as Derek mesmerizes and admires a girl in stage who is performing by reciting a poetry. I have never seen anyone or anybody perform like that ever and I would love to attend one real soon. It could be another assignment I could add to the class. I find it amazing that people have interest on such a performance, which leaves me to wonder and imagine their performances. I've been wondering if Derek is salivating or drooling over this girl when she performs, could it happen to me or my close friends in the past as I performed in some islands and countries? I'm really impressed that something takes an effect during or after your performance. I recalled nothing but good. Simple complimentary remarks and nothing beyond that.
This story was really about going after what you passionately missed and will do anything to get it back and getting through a happy ending. The poet was Nikki. This girl really performed as if it was the opera and people are stunned by it, which makes me imagine her dramatic acting on stage. She definitely moved me together with the crowd. I believe the crowd loved her voice and usage of words, which I too, is loving more and more words. Furthermore, Derek seemed like he is falling in love with her and I am not surprised if they had a past together.
Later, Derek and Nikki has a short relationship. It seemed like it just happened overnight and no sex was involve, just communication and affection. I greatly think that is the most beautiful thing between two people to share while taking their pleasant and peaceful time. Everything was pretty positive until they parted ways. After the performance, Derek really made a surprise entrance towards Nikki and when their eyes met, it was like a connection that was never gone or missing. It's really nice to encounter that kind of situation whether it is family, friends, and even an ex, regardless how much you hated your ex. The story ended as they caught up with their own lives and made love in the end. I began to not care for the ending, but rather for the connection of the story. This made my reading faster because I know whats on the end of every chapter.
