This heading of this chapter is really sad to read as it says "The Difficult Decades". I could imagined what happened to some people. Although in the first paragraph it stated that around the 1970s had undergone some startling transformation. For instance, a woman wearing pants would raise eyebrows while men with hair long enough to reach his collar would be looked at with suspicion. Unisex fashion was common and this reminded me of the Rock Stars I've learned recently called The New York Dolls, it is an all man band with unisex fashion that includes the flamboyant high heels. It was admiring and brave to actually watch a video for my other class.
Another heading was backlash and watershed. This section was like a civil war that felt like people were dying all around and were caused from the people who should protect us, that is the government officials. As I read deeper into this section, it was already too late. People have died and it felt like something pierced right through the left side of my chest. I wish that the situation ended in classy and respected way.
During all this tragedy, good news stood out for the transgender community and was called "the big science", in other words, the complete transformation of transgender - moving from gender to another. After the transition, yet still other horrible arguments still exist. The best part is that the community never backed down on this fight. I would laugh at this part because I've always seen the gay community as a very feminine and if any debate or argument is brought up, they fiercely stood firm and never give up, similar to masculine role.
In regards to the war, people create an organization from left to right and come up with the most amusing names, such as, WITCH which means Women's International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell, The Radicalesbians, and much much more. As the fight continue, the devastation grew, people were suffering continuously. It seemed so frightening and I wouldn't know how to handle it if I was ever placed in that situation.
People were really at war and they have so many ways to destroy one another, most especially those who oppose the transgender community. It's sad that some people brought this situation over the boundary and continue to harm anyone or anything that's stood in it's path. I congratulate those who strive for the betterment of the community. This section covered so much and is so depressing. I really hope that this part of history don't repeat itself.
