A Memorable and Beautiful History Chapter One...

The first chapter focuses on terms and concepts to understand its' true meaning. I've always thought that Transgendered simply means crossing over to contain a gender or switching one gender to contain another. I love how Susan analyze the meaning, it really makes great sense. It was also nice to see that she's only covering a hundred years of history here in America, but I am also thinking about the years before that, it'll be awesome if I could access that information.

I've felt that there is a reason to why Transgendered or third gender are part of culture, most especially during the earliest time of human history. Furthermore, Susan mentioned that a slogan was made in the 1970s by the feminist movement which was also called "The personal is political", I, on the other hand, do not approve of this slogan, but willing to understand the concept and it's purpose, eventually this will win me over. Regardless of my negative thinking I know the outcome was positive. During the slogan, there was the waves of feminism that led to the war of equality in today's society. I find it interesting that they call it feminism because in the "homosexual" community we are all feminine.

Susan also cited from other books and stated it in this book which I look forward to reading. This gave me an idea to make my next selection to read and hopefully I could find it here in campus. One citation was mainly about the mystery of gender identity through biology and theories still left unanswered. The terms that was mentioned in her book really stood out and made a point.

The terms are Sex, Intersex, Morphology, Secondary Sex Characteristics, Gender, Gender Role, Gender Comportment, Gender Identity, Gender Identity Disorder, Sexuality, Transvestite, Cross Dresser, Transsexual, Transgender, Genderqueer, Alphabet soup, Gender-Neutral Pronouns, Cisgender and Cissexual, and Subcultural terms. These terms are mentioned and were elaborate wonderfully.I love everything and it should be a guide for those who are heterosexual or straight to understand and be open minded for those who struggle with homosexuals. It is truly amazing.

She also didn't make the book boring so far and added great evidence from citing. One particular photo in the book stood out the most, because it reminded me of how the transgender community from where I am from, that is Northern Marianas Islands, were very natural looking and blended right in. Unlike the "Drags" I've met, they just over did it. It was nice but rather admiring to be natural looking.

On the other hand, she listed some great media that recognize this culture which was enlightening. Another thing was religion. This part really feels like your parents stopping you from going to prom when you've been waiting for that special night. It is powerful and overwhelming and no matter what the debate will never end. I really love this book so far and I recommend anyone to read it.
